Roland TrueVIS MG-640 — UV Printer/Cutter for Signage & Visual Communication

Combining TrueVIS heritage, Print & Cut capabilities and the benefits of UV-LED printing, the MG-640 adds a new dimension to graphic printing. Latest generation UV inks print onto a vast range of media and the cool-running LED lamps ensure optimum curing. Special inks such as White, Gloss and Printable Primer allow for premium finishes across many applications, while the additional Red and Orange inks produce high-quality print reproduction and simplified spot colour matching.

The MG-640 shares the core functionality of the LG Series at a more affordable price point, making it an excellent entry into UV print & cut technology. As the successor to the LEC2 devices, it builds on proven Roland DG engineering while delivering the latest UV-LED printing capabilities in a 1625 mm (64”) wide-format integrated printer/cutter.

What Can the Roland TrueVIS MG-640 Produce?

The MG-640’s combination of UV printing and integrated cutting makes it exceptionally versatile. Applications include:

  • Signage & Wayfinding: Durable UV-printed signs, directional panels and information graphics on self-adhesive vinyl, PVC and synthetic media — printed and contour-cut in a single workflow.
  • Labels & Decals: Short-run and medium-run UV-printed labels, product decals and safety stickers with instant cure and scratch-resistant finish. UV Decal ink compatibility opens additional markets.
  • Vehicle Wraps & Fleet Graphics: High-quality vehicle graphics with vibrant, durable UV inks and precision contour cutting for clean application.
  • Window Graphics: Transparent and translucent window films, frosted effects and backlit graphics using White ink for opacity control.
  • Semi-Rigid Substrates: With the optional ET-30/64 extension table, the MG-640 can print directly onto semi-rigid substrates including boards and sheet materials.
  • Flexible Packaging: The optional TB-30 tension bar enables flexible packaging printing applications.
  • Speciality & Premium Finishes: Gloss spot varnish effects, textured finishes and White ink underprinting on coloured or transparent media for premium output.
  • Outdoor & Indoor Displays: Banners, posters, point-of-sale materials and exhibition graphics with UV-durable output.

Print & Cut Capability

The MG-640 integrates both printing and contour cutting in a single device, eliminating the need for separate cutting equipment. After printing, the built-in cutting system uses registration marks to perform accurate contour cuts, kiss cuts and through cuts — significantly reducing production time and improving registration accuracy compared with separate print-then-cut workflows.

  • Cutting speed: 10 to 300 mm/s for flexible, media-appropriate cutting
  • Blade force: 30 to 500 gf — suitable for a wide range of vinyl, film and synthetic media
  • Cutting width: Up to 1600 mm (62.9 in.)
  • Compatible blades: Roland CAMM-1 series blades
  • Software resolution: 0.025 mm/step for precise cutting detail

UV-LED Printing Benefits

UV-LED curing provides significant advantages over solvent and latex printing technologies for many signage and graphics applications:

  • Instant Curing: UV-LED lamps cure ink immediately on the media surface — output is dry and ready to handle, cut or apply straight off the printer.
  • Cool-Running LEDs: Unlike mercury-vapour UV systems, UV-LED lamps run cool, preventing heat damage to sensitive or thin media and extending lamp life.
  • Media Versatility: UV inks adhere to a much wider range of substrates than solvent or eco-solvent inks, including films, synthetics, rigid sheet stock and speciality materials.
  • Energy Efficiency: UV-LED technology consumes significantly less power than traditional UV or heated drying systems — the MG-640 operates at approximately 250 W.
  • No Outgassing Period: Unlike solvent inks, UV-cured output requires no drying or outgassing time before laminating, cutting or application.

EUV5 Ink System — 8-Colour UV Inks

The MG-640 uses Roland DG’s ECO-UV (EUV5) ink system, supplied in 500 ml cartridges (220 ml for White). The 8-colour ink set extends beyond standard CMYK to include speciality colours and finishes:

  • Standard Process Colours: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black — in 500 ml cartridges
  • Extended Gamut: Red and Orange inks complement the CMYK colour gamut, delivering more vibrant colour reproduction and simplified spot colour matching without the need for custom ink mixing.
  • White Ink: Available in 220 ml cartridges. Enables opaque underprinting on transparent, coloured or metallic media for vivid graphics on non-white substrates.
  • Gloss Ink: Adds spot varnish and gloss finish effects for premium tactile and visual impact. Supplied in 500 ml cartridges.
  • Printable Primer: Expands media compatibility by pre-treating substrates for improved ink adhesion on challenging materials. Supplied in 500 ml cartridges.
  • Multiple Configurations: The ink channel layout supports multiple colour configurations to match different application requirements.

UV Decal Ink Compatibility

The MG-640 supports UV Decal ink in addition to the standard EUV5 ink set, enabling you to target new markets and decorate more substrates. By combining UV Decal ink with EUV5, you can produce transfer decals for application onto curved, textured or irregular surfaces that cannot be directly printed.

Optional Accessories

  • ET-30/64 Extension Table: Enables printing to semi-rigid substrates including boards and sheet materials, expanding the MG-640’s application range beyond flexible roll media.
  • TB-30 Tension Bar: Designed for flexible packaging printing applications, maintaining consistent media tension for accurate print and cut results on packaging films.
